Choosing the right third-party Twitter app can help you get the most out of the way you use the popular social network. Talon for Twitter has the potential to completely transform your Twitter experience, making it easier and quicker for you to interact with other users and to quickly access the best and most relevant content for you.
Fantastic in-app features
Talon for Twitter is packed with features that complement the Android user interface. The in-app browser is one of my top picks, although how well the article displays depends on the website's mobile offering (not the fault of this app).
You can also see Twitter and Instagram pictures in the app and watch YouTube videos directly without having to leave Talon. And being able to reply to, favorite, and retweet tweets from your timeline means you can do pretty much all you want without moving from your main timeline.
If you're a serious Twitter user, you'll love the Pull feature in Talon for Twitter, which keeps you regularly updated on what has been happening on Twitter in your absence (even if it's only for a ten minute coffee break). And the in-app toast notifications will help you keep on top of new developments in your virtual universe.
Takes a little time to get used to
The user interface is clean, clear and well organized and the different themes, plus the ability to change from normal to Google Hangouts view, make Talon for Twitter slick and attractive. It's a simple swipe left to move from timeline, to @ mentions, to direct messages.
All third-party Twitter apps work differently so it could take some time to work out the navigation of Talon for Twitter and get used to the layout. Common tasks (writing a tweet, following someone, sending a direct message, etc.) are not immediately obvious, but once you're up and running, you'll find it pretty intuitive.
To write a tweet, for example, there's a small arrow at the bottom of the screen. Simple once you know where it is and what it does.
I had a few issues with Talon for Twitter randomly opening while I was busy using other apps, but once I'd forced it closed I didn't get the problem again. The location-specific Tweets and the conversation views from users I follow were also slow to load or sometimes didn't load at all.
Something for everyone
Talon for Twitter is perfect for casual twitterers and power users alike. Whether you only use Twitter to tell the world what you've had for breakfast and what you think of the latest reality TV stars, or whether you're a data addict who checks Twitter before you've even got out of bed in the morning, this app will work for you.
With a few usability improvements, Talon for Twitter could be the clear third-party Twitter client of choice.
